The Shakespeare Society strives to serve the interests
of a wide variety of sectors, from school pupils, students
and teachers, to ordinary Shakespeare enthusiasts, academics,
theatrical people and cultural workers.
Our aim is to help people enjoy themselves through theatrical
and intellectual exploration focused on Shakespeare, with
particular attention to his 'after-life' in Southern Africa.
The aims of the Shakespeare Society are:
 |
To encourage and stimulate the appreciation
of William Shakespeare's works, particularly in Southern
Africa |
 |
To enrich the study of Shakespeare
in schools, technikons, training colleges and universities |
 |
To stimulate interest in Shakespeare
among the general public by means of productions, readings,
lectures, courses, seminars and conferences |
 |
To promote and maximise usage of the Shakespeare
Tavern, situated within the 1820 Settlers' National
Monument, for the enjoyment of Patrons in a Shakespearean
atmosphere of good fellowship |
 |
To establish an information centre
covering research, publications, translations and performances
of Shakespeare's works |
 |
To publish and distribute appropriate
literature on Shakespeare |
 |
To establish and maintain liaison
with other organisations with similar aims |
 |
To provide travel assistance to Shakespeare
scholars, producers and performers |
 |
To keep members informed about the
activities of the Society |
